Akin to Proto-Mongolic *malja- (“bald”) (cf. Mongolian мулзан (mulzan, “bald”)). See also Turkish kelle (“head”) and kel (“bald”), which ultimately go back to Proto-Indo-European *kalw- (“bald, head”).
