Stär
Luxembourgish
Etymology
From Old High German sterno, from Proto-Germanic *sternǭ, *sternô, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂stḗr. Although the form Stär would seem at first sight to be derived from the variant sterro, it is indeed from sterno since -är is the regular Luxembourgish development of Old High German -ern (compare gär from gerno, and Kär from kerno).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ʃteːʀ/, [ʃtɛə̯]
- Rhymes: -ɛːə
