From Latin Zadracarta, from Ancient Greek Ζαδρακάρτα (Zadrakárta), from Old Iranian. Compare Persian زرد (zard, “yellow”), Persian ساری (Sâri, “Sari”), a city known for its abundant citrus fruits located in former Hyrcania, and Middle Persian 𐭪𐭫𐭲 (-kirt, -gird), a suffix forming city names.
