aizkora

Basque

Etymology

Probably a borrowing from Latin *asciola.[1] Basque prehistorian José Miguel Barandiaran had previously proposed that the term was formed as a compound in pre-historic Basque with the first element, aiz, meaning "stone", and the second, kora, "on top".[2]
