Arabic اَلْمَجِسْطِيّ‎ (al-majisṭiyy, “almagest”), with ال‎ (al-) being the Arabic definite article, from Middle Persian𐭬𐭢𐭮𐭲𐭩𐭪‎ (magestīg), from Ancient Greek μεγίστη (megístē, “greatest”).
