1. up, upward

   doties pa kāpnēm augšā ― to go up the stairs

2. used to reinforce the sense of the prefix uz- on certain verbs

   Klaudijs Vārpa uzgāja augšā balkonā ― Klaudijs Vārpa went up to the balcony

3. used to replace the prefix uz- on certain verbs to mark imperfective aspect

   kāpt kokā augšā ― to climb up (to the top) of the tree

   rāpties pa nogāzi augšā ― to climb up (to the top) of the slope

   plānā ir: šogad uzcelt tauta namu... materiāli ir savesti... lūdzu, tagad cel augšā! ― it is in the plan: to build up a house of the people (= community centeer) this year... the materials are gathered (already)... please, now build (it) up!

4. up, standing, on one's feet

   slieties augšā ― to stand up

   lēkt augšā ― to jump up

   Andris krita, bet jau nākošā acumirklī Andris bija augšā un dēvās tālāk ― Andris fell, but the next moment Andris was already up and went further

5. up, awake

   tu vēl augšā? ― you still up?

   celt augšā ― to wake (someone) up

   celties augšā ― to wake and get up

   pirmdienas rīts; vecmāmuļa pirmā augšā ― Monday morning; granny is the first one up (= awake and up)
