burdhë
Albanian
Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *burdā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰr̥dʰo (compare English board, Lithuanian bartà). Alternatively a derivative of PIE *bʰer- (“to carry, bear”) (cf. with Old English byrd (“burden”), German Bürde (“burden, weight”), Icelandic byrði (“burden”)). For sense development cf. Italian fardello, both meaning sack, bag and burden.
