From Latin catēchīzō (“I instruct in religion; I catechize”), from Ancient Greek κατηχίζω (katēkhízō, “I instruct orally”), from κατηχέω (katēkhéō, “I resound, instruct orally”), from κατά (katá, “down”) + ἠχή (ēkhḗ, “sound, noise”).
