Etymology
From icelui, from ici (“here”) + lui (“him”) or from Vulgar Latin *eccillui, a compound of ecce + *illūi, itself a Vulgar Latin form of Latin illī, dative singular of ille under the influence of cui. (see lui). Compare Italian colui, cf. also Romanian acelui.
