cerce
French
Etymology
From Middle French serche, from Old French cerche, probably from a Vulgar Latin *circa (compare northern Italian cerca, Spanish cerca, Portuguese cerca), from the feminine of Latin circus. In modern French, the form cerce was probably due to progressive assimilation or from influence from cerceau.
