From Proto-Albanian *dzalā (compare Gheg dhallt(i)), from earlier *dzalakta, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵlákts (gen. *ǵlaktós) (compare Greek γάλα (gála), Italian latte). Compare also Romanian zară[1].
