From ein- (in) + schüchtern (timid) + -en (a suffix of verbs in their infinitive form), a loan translation of Latin intimidare (in (in) + timidus (timid) + -are (a suffix of verbs in their infinitive form)). Similar to Dutch inschuchteren (to intimidate).
