Via other European languages, ultimately borrowed from Latin ēiaculor (“to hurl, to shoot out”) (cf. perfect passive participle ēiaculātus), from ē (“out”) + iaculor (“throw, dart”), from iaculum (“a missile, a dart”), from iaciō (“to throw, to hurl”).
