emergency goalie (plural emergency goalies)

(ice hockey) A goaltender who is provided by the home team or venue hockey arena, as a third goalie, available to either team playing, when both their roster's starting goalie and backup goalie are injured. This goalie is usually sourced from the local senior amateur hockey clubs/leagues, and given VIP privileges during the game as compensation for their time serving as emergency backup.
