escuerzo

Spanish

Etymology

Uncertain. One theory is Latin scorteus (leathern), referring to the wrinkled skin of a toad. Another possibility is a derivative of a Vulgar Latin *excurtio, from Late Latin curtiō (viper), from Latin curtus (short) (thus cognate or linked with Catalan escurçó, dialectal Italian scorzone, Mozarabic uxcurchón)[1].
