From Old Portuguese fevereiro, fevreyro, febreyro, from Late Latin febrārius, from Latin februārius, from fēbruum (“purification”), via the purification ritual Fēbrua held on February 15 in the old Roman calendar.

Usage notes
In Brazilian Portuguese, the names of months were usually not capitalized. But in Portugal they were. The Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990 abolished their capitalization.
