Etymology 1
From Old Spanish gouierno, gouernio, from gouernar, gobernar (“to govern”) (compare Catalan govern, Galician goberno, Italian governo and Portuguese governo). Synchronically from gobernar (“to govern”). Cf. also Late Latin gubernus, gubernius[1].
