From Ottoman Turkish ایچلمك (içilmek, “to be drunk, be imbibed”), from Proto-Turkic *ič-il-mek (“to be drunk”). Equivalent to iç- + -il (“passive marker”). Cognate with Karakhanid اِـجـِلْماكْ (ičilmēk, “to be drunk”).
