From īdōlolatrīa by haplology, from Ancient Greek εἰδωλολατρείᾱ (eidōlolatreíā) or εἰδωλολατρίᾱ (eidōlolatríā, “worship of idols”), back-formation from εἰδωλολάτρης (eidōlolátrēs) (īdōlatra in Latin), from εἴδωλον (eídōlon, “idol”) + λάτρις (látris, “worshipper”) or λατρεύω (latreúō, “I worship”), from λάτρον (látron, “payment”).
