internacionālisms

From internacionāls (“international”) +‎ -isms. Probably not formed as such in Latvian, but borrowed and adapted from another European language.

internacionālisms m (1st declension)

1. internationalism (the ideal of cooperation and solidarity between country and nations)

   padomju tautu draudzības tēma nav atdalāma no visas pasaules darbaļaužu savstarpējās solidaritates un internacionālisma tēmas ― the theme of friendship between Soviet peoples cannot be separated from the theme of mutual solidarity and internationalism of the workers of the whole world

2. (linguistics) a loanword borrowed into many languages

   līdzās nacionālajiem aizguvumiem latviešu valodā sastopami arī internacionāli aizguvumi jeb internacionālismi ― alongside national borrowings there are in the Latvian language also international borrowings or internationalisms

   lielai daļai internacionālo vārdu latviešu valodā nav nemaz tik īss mūžs; šie vārdi latviešu valodā sāka ieplūst ar Brīvzemnieka un Valdemāra vārdnīcām, kas ir pirmās latviešu vārdnīcu vidū, kur ietilpināti arī internacionālismi ― a large part of the international words in the Latvian language does not at all have such a short life; these words began to flow into the Latvian language with Brīvzemnieks' and Valdemārs' dictionaries, which were the first among Latvian dictionaries in which internationalisms were also included
