karstums m (1st declension)

1. (usually in the singular) heat (high temperature; the feeling that it generates)

   sajust ugunskura karstumu ― to feel the heat of the fire

   tropiskais karstums ― tropical heat

   karstums pieņemas, mazinās ― the heat is increasing, decreasing

   pirtī liels karstums ― it is very hot (lit. there is big heat) in the sauna

   spējš karstums izskrēja caur dzīslām ― strong heat ran through (his) veins

2. (usually in the singular) heat, hot (a place where there is heat)

   sēdēt karstumā pie krāsns ― to sit in the heat by the oven

3. (usually in the singular) heat, strong feelings, temper, passion

   jaunības karstums ― the heat, passion of youth

   mīlas karstumā ― in the heat of love

   diskusiju karstumā ― in the heat of the discussion

4. (usually in the singular) intensity of action

   pašā darba karstumā mašīnai atgadās ķibele ― in the heat of work (i.e., during intense work) the machine had a problem

5. (usually in the plural) high body temperature, fever
