From Proto-Albanian *krau, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱreh₂u, *ḱrh₂eu 'limb'. Close to Latin crūs.[1] Alternatively from archaic krahi, definite krai (Buzuku), from South Slavic *krajь ‘end; rim, edge; region’ (cf. Serbo-Croatian krȃj, Bulgarian край (kraj)). Similar sense development in Bulgarian край (kraj), крайник (krajnik), краиште (kraište), all ‘limb’.[2]
