From Old Polish kurśnierz, kurśnirz, from Middle High German kürsner (> German Kürschner), from chursene, kursen, kürsen (“fur coat”) + -er (occupational suffix), from Old High German chursene, kursen, kürsen (“fur coat”), a borrowing of Proto-Slavic *kъrzьno (“fur coat”).
