Pronunciation

Etymology 1

From Proto-Vietic *p-luːt (inonder, to flood), possibly from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ləc ~ ləəc ~ laac (to be flooded, to sink) or *ləp ~ lup ~ luup ~ luəp (to immerse) (Pre-Proto-Mon-Khmer *ləbləb > *bləp). Compare Chut [blut¹] ("to flood"), Ngeq [lṳut] ("flood"), Khmer លិច (lɨc, to sink, to submerge, to overflow, to flood). See also lút.
