Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *nisdá[1], from Indo-European *ni-sd-óm[1].
In Eastern Baltic languages the anlaut *n changed into *l.. Cognate with Latvian ligzda, Polish gniazdo[1][2], Old English nest[1], Latin nīdus (“abode”)[1] and Sanskrit नीड (nīḍá-)[1].
