Etymology

Introduced by the botanist Jan Svatopluk Presl in 1846.[1] The noun lošák (“Sarcodon”), which is from Polish łosiak, from łos (“elk”),[2] probably refers to the colour of the mushroom, somewhat resembling the colour of elk. At the same time the adjective jelení (“deer-like”) reminds the colour of a deer.
