Etymology

From Proto-Tocharian *mākā, probably from Proto-Indo-European *meǵh₂ (whence Ancient Greek μέγας (mégas), compare also Sanskrit मह (mahá), Persian مه) or possibly *maǵ- (compare Latin magnus, Albanian madh (large)[1]). Compare Tocharian B māka.
