From the same stema as meli (“lie(s)”), made into a second conjugation verb (ending -ot).[1]

- to lie, to tell lies (to say something that is not true knowingly, intentionally)
- apzināti melot ― to lie deliberately
- kurš tad šodien tev meloja? ― who, then, lied to you like that?
- neviens cits neprata melot tik plaši un tik sirsnīgi ― nobody else knows how to lie so well and so sincerely
