paljo
Finnish
(index pa)
Etymology
From Proto-Finnic [Term?], either from Uralic or Germanic. Related to Estonian palju, Ingrian paljo and Votic paĺĺo.
Usage notes
The more commonly used adverb is paljon but it is common nowadays to use inflected forms from paljo when needed such as in
- paljollako vähenee?
- by how much will it reduce?
- kiitos paljosta
- thanks for the "muchness" (of the help or whatever it was) "much" refers directly to the assistance
contrast with
- kiitos (ark.) / kiitoksia (kirj.) paljon
- Many thanks (lit. much thanks "much" here refers to the amount of thanks being expressed)
