Etymology

1780, ultimately from Tundra Nenets парка, via Aleut parka and Russian па́рка (párka).[1][2][3] Perhaps from Proto-Uralic [Term?]; see dialectal Finnish parka (rag, swaddling clothes), which may be cognate from Proto-Uralic, or early borrowing from another Uralic language.

Etymology 1

Uncertain. The original sense, retained in dialects, is "a rag, swaddling clothes" and it is possible that the word is an old cognate of the international parka meaning "jacket", as a loan from Tundra Nenets or, less likely, even by common inheritance from Proto-Uralic.[1]
