Etymology
From the verb segja (“to say”) + -st (“a suffix which turns verbs into middle voice verbs”). See also the appendix about the Icelandic middle voice verbs.
Usage notes
- The verb segjast is mostly used in indirect speech when talking about oneself.
- Hann segist vera duglegur. = Hann segir að hann sé duglegur.
- He says he's hard-working.
- Hann segist vera duglegur. = Hann segir að hann sé duglegur.
