From Vulgar Latin *sennus, ofGermanic origin (whence also Old French sen, san "mind, sense, direction", Occitan sen, Catalan seny, Spanish sien), from Frankish *sinn (“sense, mental faculty, way, direction”), from Proto-Germanic *sinnaz (“mind, meaning”), from Proto-Germanic *sinþaną (“to go, find one's way”), from Proto-Indo-European *sent- (“to go”).
