Etymology
Coined by Humphry Davy in 1807, from soda + -ium, "soda" being from Italian soda, which may be from Arabic سُوَّاد (suwwād, “saltwort”) or Arabic سُوَيْدَاء (suwaydāʾ, “Suaeda”).[1]
