From Ottoman Turkish صولومق (solumak, to breathe, breathe heavily, pant), from Proto-Turkic *soglɨ- (to breathe heavily, pant).[1]

Cognate with Chagatai [script needed] (solumak, to breathe), Chuvash сывлама (syvlama, to breathe), Tatar суларга (sularga, to breathe), Yakut уолуй (uoluy, to be lost, be very scared).
