Italian
Etymology
Possibly from Old French estanc (modern étanche), from the verb estanchier (modern étancher), probably from Vulgar Latin *stanticare < stanticus < Latin stans, stantis. Also possibly from Latin stanticus or a derivation of stancare, though this may instead derive from it.
