- Probably cognate with Serbo-Croatian ту̏ча/tȕča (“hail”)[1] and Russian ту́ча (túča, “rain cloud”)[1]. Compare Lithuanian tánkus (“dense”) and ancient Greek τόξον (tóxon, “bow”), whence tangent (homophone).
