From Proto-Albanian *ts-angulā, prefixed diminutive of Proto-Indo-European *h₂ongʷʰ- ‘snake’ (compare Latin anguis, Lithuanian angìs, Old High German angar (“kind of maggot”))[1] or from Proto-Indo-European *snog-, *sneg- (“to crawl; a creeping thing”) (compare Sanskrit नाग (nāga, “snake”), English snake.
