From Proto-Albanian *ts-angulā, prefixed diminutive of Proto-Indo-European *h₂ongʷʰ- ‘snake’ (compare Latin anguis, Lithuanian angìs, Old High German angar (kind of maggot))[1] or from Proto-Indo-European *snog-, *sneg- (to crawl; a creeping thing) (compare Sanskrit नाग (nāga, snake), English snake.
