From Middle French trac, from Old French trac (“a track, trace, a beaten path, course”), from Middle Dutch treck, treke (“a drawing, draft, delineation, feature, train, procession, line or flourish with a pen, sketch”), from Old Dutch *trecken, from Proto-Germanic *trakjaną (“to drag”).
