Romanian

Etymology 1

From French truffe.

Noun

trufă f (plural trufe)

  1. truffle

Etymology 2

Uncertain. Possibly from a Vulgar Latin root *trufa, or also suggested to be from a Ancient Greek τροφή (trophḗ), though this is unlikely. More likely is a feminine derivation ultimately from Latin triumphus (compare Italian tronfio).
