uzsvars m (1st declension)

1. emphasis, stress (the highlighting of, e.g., a thought, an idea, a formal element in a text, a work of art, etc.)

   salikt uzvarus ― to put emphasis (on something)

   “vai mums pietiks naudas?” - “gluži tukšā jau mēs neesam,” māte sacīja ar zīmīgu uzsvaru ― “will he have enough money?” - “we aren't in desperation (lit. in the empty),” mother said with a significant emphasis

2. (linguistics) stress, accent (higher intensity or tone in the pronunciation of a specific syllable of a word)

   vārda, zilbes uzsvars ― word, syllable stress
