Etymology
First attested 10th century. From the feminine of vaquerizo, although this was first attested several centuries later[1]. Perhaps corresponds to a Vulgar Latin *vaccaricia, from vaccaricius (“of cattle”), from Latin vacca; compare Italian vaccareccia, Romanian văcăreață, French Vacheresse.
