vezér
See also: vezer
Hungarian
Etymology
From the same root as vezet (“to lead; drive”) + -ér (noun-forming suffix). The root is from Proto-Finno-Ugric *wetä- (“to lead, guide, draw, pull”).[1] Cognates include Finnish vetää. The Finno-Ugric root may be related to Proto-Indo-European *wedʰ- (“to lead”), either as loan or through genetic relationship.[2][3]
