Etymology
From Middle Dutch wratte, from Old Dutch wratt, *wratta, *warta, from Proto-Germanic *wartǭ. The phonetic development is irregular, but compare Middle Low German wratte, Middle English wrette. Some modern Dutch dialects have the expected form wa(a)rt. Compare also German Warze, English wart.
