Office of the Director

Prion and Public Health Office (PPHO)
The Prion and Public Health Office within DHCPP fulfills CDC’s responsibilities as the lead agency for monitoring the occurrence of human prion diseases in the United States.

Bacterial Special Pathogens Branch (BSPB)
The Bacterial Special Pathogens Branch is responsible for the prevention and control of illnesses due to a varied group of zoonotic and environmental bacterial pathogens, and assisting in the investigation of unexplained critical illness and deaths.

Chronic Viral Diseases Branch (CVDB)
The Chronic Viral Diseases Branch is responsible for conducting research on chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and human papillomavirus (HPV) with the goal of reducing the health burden of these conditions.

Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB)
The Infectious Diseases Pathology Branch (IDPB) is the primary unit within CDC responsible for conducting laboratory studies and investigations of infectious disease of unknown etiologies.

Poxvirus and Rabies Branch
The Poxvirus and Rabies Branch is responsible for consultation, disease surveillance, and investigations related to poxviruses and rabies.

Viral Special Pathogens Branch (VSPB)
The Viral Special Pathogens Branch’s (VSPB) charter is the study of highly infectious viruses, many of which cause hemorrhagic manifestations in humans.
