FIRE FIGHTING

FIRE Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas. Heating will cause rise in pressure with risk of bursting.

Dry powder. Carbon dioxide. NO water. decomposes generating heat and toxic and corrosives vapors
EXPLOSION

In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
•INHALATION Cough. Sore throat. Burning sensation. Laboured breathing.
Ventilation, local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer immediately for medical attention.
•SKIN Redness. Pain. Serious skin burns.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
•EYES Redness. Pain. Severe deep burns.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Burning sensation. Sore throat. Abdominal pain. Shock or collapse.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer immediately for medical attention.

Personal protection: gas-tight chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus. Cover the spilled material with dry absorbent. Carefully collect remainder, in plastic containers, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from ammonia, water, oxidants, and food and feedstuffs. Cool. Dry. Well closed. Keep in a well-ventilated room. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
RED TO BROWN FUMING LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic and corrosive fumes including hydrogen chloride and sulfur oxides . Reacts violently with strong oxidants, acetone and ammonia . Reacts with water to produce hydrogen chloride (see ICSC0163). Attacks many metals in the presence of water.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
Serious local effects by all routes of exposure.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion. Inhalation may cause lung oedema (see Notes).

The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. It is strongly advised that this substance does not enter the environment.

N O T E S

Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate inhalation therapy by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
