Program Impact

NIOSH is strongly committed to program evaluation as a way to maximize its contributions to improved occupational safety and health. Regular review of program activities, outputs, and outcomes is essential to demonstrating program performance. The NTRC conducts reviews and shares program impact in a variety of ways.

Progress Reports

The NTRC has published a series of Progress Reports which do address the program outputs, outcomes and impact. They can be accessed here.

Program Performance One-Pagers (PPOPs) are a snapshot of NIOSH programs’ priorities, strategies used to make progress towards priorities, recent accomplishments, and upcoming work.

Impact Sheet

Impact Sheets briefly describe an occupational safety or health hazard, the specific NIOSH or NIOSH-funded research activity that was conducted to address the hazard, the resulting impact or recommendations, and relevant statistics.

Program Reviews

In August 2014, the RAND Corporation undertook a project at the request of NIOSH Nanotechnology Research Center to help develop and apply an approach for identifying the center’s contributions to the safety and health of workers who could be affected by the production, use, reuse, or disposal of engineered nanomaterials. RAND proposed a method for gathering and organizing information about NTRC’s operations and compiling information to capture the impact of its work. RAND also conducted a pilot test of the model using NIOSH outputs and stakeholder engagement to information and organizations related to nano–titanium dioxide and nano-silver.
