ERGONOMIC INTERVENTIONS IN SHIPYARDS
Hazard: Treated or untreated steel exposed to the elements will corrode over time. This corrosion must be ground off or blasted off prior to assembly. Having to remove the corrosion is non-productive and may expose the worker unnecessarily to hand-arm vibration.
Solution: The cut and painted steel in this Japanese Yard is stored inside away from the elements. No additional work needs to be done before the steel is transferred to the fabrication areas (see photo).
