Add all 7 Eevee evolutions to your Pokédex with these simple steps

Unlike most other Pokémon, Eevee has to meet some special conditions to evolve, so how do you get each of its 7 evolutions? If you wanna catch 'em all in HeartGold and SoulSilver, it's really easy to get the "Eeveelution" you like the best. Whether you want Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, or Glaceon on your team, we've got you covered. Keep reading so you can get your Eevee and evolve it into your favorite type!

Things You Should Know

  • Use a Fire Stone on Eevee to get Flareon, a Water Stone to get Vaporeon, or a Thunder Stone to get Jolteon.
  • Level Eevee up during the day with high happiness to get Espeon. Level Eevee up at night when it has high happiness for Umbreon.
  • Trade Eevee to Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum and level it up near the Mossy Rock for Leafeon or the Ice Rock for Glaceon.
Method 1
Method 1 of 8:

Getting Eevees

  1. 1
Talk to Bill to receive an Eevee. Find Bill at the Pokémon Center in Ecruteak City, and talk with him. After he leaves the Pokémon Center, locate Bill at his house in the west side of Goldenrod City. If you have an open spot in your party when you talk to him, he'll give you an Eevee he can't look after.[1]
    • Bill will only give you 1 Eevee when you talk to him.
  2. 2
Go to the Celadon City Game Corner. Find the Game Corner in Celadon City, which is the purple building with a blue archway. Enter the door on the right side of the Game Corner and go to the right side of the counter. If you have 6,666 coins from the Game Corner, you can purchase an Eevee to add to your party.[2]
    • Earn coins by playing the games in the Game Corner. It may take a little while since the games are mostly luck-based.

  3. 3
Breed Eevee with Ditto at the Pokémon Day Care. Have Eevee and Ditto in your party, and find the Day Care along Route 34 in the game. Drop both Pokémon off at the Day Care and walk around in the game. Every 255 steps, check back at the Day Care to see if there’s an egg. Once you have an egg, walk around the map until it hatches into an Eevee.[3]
    • Leave Eevee and Ditto in the Day Care until you have enough eggs and Eevees to get all of the evolutions.
    • Keep a Pokémon with the Magma Armor or Flame Body ability in your party to help make eggs hatch quicker.

Method 2
Method 2 of 8:

Flareon

  1. 1
Get a Fire Stone. There are multiple Fire Stones available in the game. Go to the Sea Cottage on Route 25 and talk to Bill's grandfather. If you show him either a Growlithe or a Vulpix, he’ll give you a stone in return. Alternatively, visit the Pokéathlon Dome on a Sunday and talk to the Athlete Shop on the right side to buy a Fire Stone for 2,500 Athlete Points.[4]
    • You may also win a Fire Stone if you win first place in a Bug-Catching contest in Johto’s National Park.
  2. 2
Save the game before you use the Fire Stone. If you only have 1 Eevee and realize you wanted a different Evolution, just restart your game. As long as you didn’t Save at any point after using the Fire Stone, your Eevee will be back in your party.
  3. 3
Use the Fire Stone on Eevee. Put Eevee in your Party and find the Fire Stone in your bag. Select the Fire Stone and choose your Eevee to immediately evolve it into the Fire-type Flareon.[5]

Method 3
Method 3 of 8:

Vaporeon

  1. 1
Find a Water Stone. Go to the Seafoam Islands on Route 20 and look for a Water Stone on the second basement floor. Alternatively, visit Bill's grandfather at the Sea Cottage and show him a Staryu or Marill in return for a stone. If you have access to the Pokéathlon Dome, go to the Athlete Shop there on a Wednesday to buy a Water Stone for 2,500 Athlete Points.[6]
  2. 2
Save the game before you use the Water Stone. If you decide you don’t want a Vaporeon, saving now lets you reset your game so you have an Eevee again.
  3. 3
Use the Water Stone on Eevee. Find the Water Stone in your bag and use it on the Eevee in your party. The Eevee will immediately evolve into the Water-type Vaporeon.[7]

Method 4
Method 4 of 8:

Jolteon

  1. 1
Find a Thunder Stone. Take a Pichu to the Sea Cottage and show it to Bill’s grandfather in exchange for a Thunder Stone.[8] Alternatively, buy a Thunder Stone at the Pokéathlon Dome on a Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday.[9]
    • Thunder Stones are also potential prizes for winning first place in a Bug-Catching Contest.
    • Lass Dana on Route 38 may give you a Thunder Stone as a prize when you talk to her.
  2. 2
Save the game before you use the Thunder Stone. Go to the menu and quickly save. That way, if you decide you want a different evolution, you’re able to restart your game and have Eevee back in your party.
  3. 3
Use the Thunder Stone on your Eevee. Find the thunder Stone in your bag and use it on the Eevee in your party. Once it evolves, you’ll have the Electric-type Jolteon to use in your party.[10]

Method 5
Method 5 of 8:

Espeon

  1. 1
Raise your friendship with Eevee. Eevee starts with a base Friendship of 70 but needs to reach 220 to evolve into Espeon. Boost your Eevee’s friendship by battling with your Eevee without it fainting, keeping Eevee in your party, giving it berries and Protein, and taking it to the National Park.[11]
    • Check your Eevee's friendship level by talking to the Friendship Checker in Goldenrod City. Find her north of the Bike Shop and on the east side of town. If she says, "It looks really happy! It must love you a lot," your Eevee is ready to level up and evolve.
    • Interact with your Eevee between 4:00 AM and 8:00 PM, since leveling up your Eevee outside that range could make it evolve into an Umbreon.
  2. 2
Level up your Eevee between 4:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Eevee only evolves into Espeon during the day. After your Eevee has a high friendship level, battle with your Eevee so it levels up at least once. Alternatively, give your Eevee a Rare Candy to immediately raise it by 1 level to get the Psychic-type Espeon.[12]
    • The time of day is based on the system clock on your Nintendo DS.

Method 6
Method 6 of 8:

Umbreon

  1. 1
Raise your Eevee’s friendship level. Eevee needs a Friendship level of 220 before it can evolve into an Umbreon. Keep Eevee in your party, battle with it, and feed it berries and vitamins that boost stats to raise the friendship level.[13]
    • Give your Eevee a Soothe Bell to help raise its friendship even faster.
    • Visit the Friendship Checker in Goldenrod City to get an idea of your Umbreon’s friendship with you. Locate her north of the Bike Shop and on the east side of town. If she says, "It looks really happy! It must love you a lot," your Eevee is ready to level and evolve.
    • Only interact with your Eevee between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM, as any time outside of that means your Eevee will evolve into an Espeon.
  2. 2
Level up your Eevee between 8:00 PM and 4:00 AM. After it has a high friendship level, battle with your Eevee until it goes up 1 level. Alternatively, give your Eevee a Rare Candy to immediately level it up. As long as it’s nighttime, your Eevee will evolve into the Dark-type Umbreon.[14]
    • After leveling in the night time(8:00 PM - 4:00 AM), Eevee will evolve into Umbreon.

Method 7
Method 7 of 8:

Leafeon

  1. 1
Trade an Eevee to Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. Connect your Nintendo DS to a friend playing Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum and trade your Eevee to them.[15]
    • The location where Eevee evolves into Leafeon is not available in HeartGold or SoulSilver, so you must trade to a different game if you want the evolution.
  2. 2
Go to Eterna Forest in your Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum game. Go to the southwestern section of the Eterna Forest, and look for a formation of trees that resemble a sideways L.[16]
  3. 3
Level up your Eevee in the grass around the Moss Rock. Walk around the tall grass around the Moss Rock until you encounter a Pokémon to battle. Use your Eevee while battling so it levels up by 1 level. Alternatively, use a Rare Candy to immediately boost your level. Once you level up, your Eevee will evolve into the Grass-type Leafeon.[17]
  4. 4
Trade your Leafeon back to your HeartGold/SoulSilver game. Reconnect your Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum game back to HeartGold or SoulSilver. Once the Leafeon is back in your party, its info will be added to your Pokédex.

Method 8
Method 8 of 8:

Glaceon

  1. 1
Trade your last Eevee to Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. Eevee evolves into Glaceon at a special location that isn’t available in HeartGold and SoulSilver. Connect with a friend or a second console running Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum so you can trade an Eevee to the game.[18]
  2. 2
Go to the snowstorm on Route 217 in the Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. Find the route south of Snowpoint City near the top of the map..[19]
  3. 3
Look for the Ice Rock. Check the northeast corner of the route behind the house for the Ice Rock. The rock will look blue and be surrounded by tall grass.[20]
  4. 4
Level up Eevee in the grass around the rock. With your Eevee out to battle, walk around the rock in the grass until you encounter a Pokémon. Use your Eevee in battle until it levels up, and becomes the Ice-type Glaceon.[21]
    • Alternatively, use a Rare Candy to level up Eevee without battling.
  5. 5
Trade your Glaceon back to your HeartGold/SoulSilver game. Connect your Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum game back to your console running HeartGold or SoulSilver. Trade the Glaceon back into the game to add it to your party and the Pokédex.
