Silver Queen corn is grown from seed. You should remember as all corn, Silver Queen will require some water in the hot summer months. If you decide to save seed then always plant at least 25 stocks and take 1 ear from at least 5 to 7 plants for seed saving. Silver Queen is productive and very sweet.
Steps
-
1Start by getting good seed; preferably a name brand.
-
2Choose a planting area suitable for growing corn. The soil should be rich and loamy with good drainage for best results, and corn grows best in full sun.Advertisement

3Plant the seed about 2" deep and water thoroughly in early spring when frost is no longer expected. This can vary depending on your region. Seeds should be spaced about 12 inches (30.5 cm) apart to allow space for the plants.
-
4Maintain the ground moisture for about 2 to 3 weeks or until seeds sprout.
-
5When seedlings appear, give a good liquid fertilizer of choice (preferably high in nitrogen). Avoid contact with the plants as this can damage the delicate seedlings.
-
6Keep the corn cultivated to keep the soil from compacting around the roots and to prevent weeds.
-
7When corn is at max size, about 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to 1.8 m) in height, (shown above) fertilize again with a liquid fertilizer.
-
8See if it's ready. Look at the silks on individual ears to see if they are dark brown and beginning to dry out. Pull back the husk on an ear or two to expose the uppermost kernels. You will know corn is ready when you push your finger into a kernel and white liquid comes out.
-
9Pick the corn and shuck just before you cook it, and then enjoy.

QuestionCan I freeze uncooked corn?Community AnswerBefore you can freeze uncooked vegetables, including corn, you need to blanch them. A quick dip in boiling water to kill off any bacteria is all you need. This will not "cook" your vegetables. If you do not blanch the vegetables prior to freezing, bacteria will grow, despite the temperature in the freezer. Be sure to completely dry your vegetables prior to freezing to prevent freezer burn. Vacuum sealing your vegetables will keep them fresh, flavorful and frost free.
