2023 New York City Marathon
The 2023 New York City Marathon is the 52nd edition of the annual marathon race in New York City, scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023.[1][2][3] A Platinum Label marathon, it is the last of six World Marathon Majors events scheduled for 2023.[4][5][6] More than 50,000 runners from 150 countries are expected to take part in the event.[7][2]

Competitors
Evans Chebet of Kenya, who won the previous year's race, his first New York City Marathon, with a time of 2:08:41, is expected to return to defend his title.[8][9] His compatriot Geoffrey Kamworor, who won the New York City Marathon in 2017 and in 2019, is aiming to be the first runner to win the men's open division of the marathon thrice.[8][lower-alpha 1] Kenyan runner Edward Cheserek, the most decorated athlete in the history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), is planning to debut at the marathon distance in this race.[8][9]
Kenyan runner Sharon Lokedi, who won the previous year's race, her first marathon, with a time of 2:23:23, is planning to defend her title.[11][12] Her compatriot Brigid Kosgei, who previously held the marathon world record after she won the 2019 Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:14:04, is scheduled to run this race as her first New York City Marathon.[13][12][lower-alpha 2] The previous year's runner-up, Israeli runner Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, is also expected to contest the title.[8][9]
